Our Story

Hovid is the leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Malaysia and markets more than 350 different types of all wellness and pharmaceutical products distributed over 50 countries worldwide. Hovid’s product categories include ethical drugs, dietary supplements and consumer products.

The history of Hovid begun in early 1940s with the Chinese herbal tea, Ho Yan Hor, formulated by Dr. Ho Kai Cheong with the intention of helping people. The Hor Yan Hor tea is developed to relieve body heatiness, nausea, indigestion and waning appetite. It has been a popular alternative to western medicine during the post-World War II period with its cooling and anti-viral properties. After 70 years, Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea remains the favorite natural beverage among all.

In the 1980s, along with his father’s success, David Ho (Managing Director of Hovid Berhad), a well-trained pharmacist led Hovid into a new chapter of manufacturing excellence.  Armed with expertise in pharmacy with strong passion of entrepreneurship, David ventured into the mainstream medical approaches.

Hovid’s manufacturing facilities and practices are in the respect of the pharmaceutical products that conform to the cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) and Good Laboratory Practice Standards. The company’s laboratories are accredited to the International Standard of ISO/IEC 17025.

Being listed on the main board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, Hovid is a well-diversified pharmaceutical company.  Hovid’s strength lies in its Research and Development and the stringent quality control over the products plus the commitment to deliver the best services to customers.  Hovid also prides itself of being the first to introduce Malaysian generic drugs overseas since 30 years ago, starting from Southeast Asia.  It has successfully secured more than 1,200 marketing authorizations worldwide.
